April On The Warsaw Stock Exchange

April 2005 saw all main WSE indices fall. The index, which decreased the most, was the TechWIG – index for the SiTech Segment.



Among all listed companies 52 showed positive rates of return.



Cash market turnover amounted to 9 355 million zloty and was 36% lower than in March. On the futures market turnover totalled 12 622 million zloty and was 41% lower than in the previous month.



As of April 1, 2005, transaction fees for exchange members were lowered an average by 5%. In the period 1999-2005, transaction fees have been lowered overall by some 50% for shares and 46% for futures.

On April 5, 2005, zero-coupon T-bonds maturing on April 12, 2005 (abbreviated name “OK0405”) were quoted for the last time.

On April 18, 2005, 3-year T-bonds with a floating interest rate and maturing on May 5, 2005, (abbreviated name “TZ0505”) were quoted for the last time.

On April 18, 2005, first quotation of 3,937,000 ordinary bearer shares of ZAKLADY TWORZYW SZTUCZNYCH “ZABKOWICE – ERG” took place (abbreviated name “ZTSERG” and ticker symbol “ERG”). Earlier, between February 18 and April 15, 2005, allotment certificates concerning bearer shares series C of the company had been traded on the Exchange.

On April 25, 2005, first quotation of investment certificates - series A - issued by BPH FUNDUSZ INWESTYCYJNY ZAMKNIÊTY BEZPIECZNA INWESTYCJA 2 (closed-end investment fund) took place (abbreviated name “BPHFIZBI2”).

On April 20, 2005, the WSE Supervisory Board admitted two new – after Dresdner Bank AG – remote members to operations on the WSE main and parallel markets. These were the Swedish Fischer Partners Fondkomission AB and the Hungarian Concorde Securities Ltd. Remote membership allows foreign brokerage houses direct access to the WSE trading system, without the need for actual presence in Poland or using the services of local intermediaries.

On April 27, 2005, the AmRest Holdings N.V. company debuted on the Exchange. 13,500,000 bearer shares with a nominal value of EURO 0.01 were introduced to trading (ticker symbol “EAT”). AmRest Holdings N.V. holds a franchise for running fast food restaurants Kentucky Fried Chicken and casual dining restaurants Pizza Hut in Poland and in the Czech Republic, in Poland it also sells ice cream under the Ice*Land brand.

In April 2005, apart from the newly-listed companies, shares of the following companies were introduced to trading on the WSE: Computerland, Swarzêdz, TUP, Netia, Ivax, TVN, Apator, DGA, Interia.pl, Prochem, Próchnik, Ferrum and Zetkama.

Changes in WSE indices

Following the trading session of April 4, 2005, 33,765,000 shares of BIOTON were added to the portfolios of the WIG and WIG-PL indices.

Following the trading session of April 20, 2005, the WIRR index portfolio was supplemented with a packet of 1,911,000 shares of ZTSERG.
