Health Care Sector Posts Biggest Gain for April in U.S., Europe & Worldwide Basic Materials Sector Takes the Hardest Hit in U.S.
The U.S. blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 3.35% in April, closing at 10151.13. Stock market indexes in Europe fell, indexes in Asia fell and Globally indexes were down in April, according to preliminary monthly figures from global index providers, Dow Jones Indexes and STOXX Ltd.

APRIL 2005 Sector Winners and Losers
- In the U.S., the Health Care sector was the biggest winner in April, posting a 2.00% gain. The Dow Jones Basic Materials sector posted the biggest loss, dropping 7.99%.
- In Europe, the Dow Jones STOXX 600 Health Care sector posted the biggest gain, climbing 5.15%. The Dow Jones STOXX 600 Automobiles & Parts sector posted the biggest loss, falling 7.38%.
- Globally, the Health Care sector led, rising 3.19% in the Dow Jones Sector Titans Index. The Dow Jones Automobiles & Parts sector fell 6.31%.
