NZX is pleased to announce the appointment of Joost van Amelsfort as NZX’s Head of Market Supervision effective 4 August 2014.
Joost joins NZX with considerable experience providing complex legal and commercial advice to capital markets participants, operating both in New Zealand and overseas. Most recently he has been at Simpson Grierson as a senior associate corporate/commercial. Prior to that he was at Linklaters LLP, London and Dubai. His areas of expertise include corporate governance, equity and debt capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, corporate and commercial contracts, and public private partnerships.
The creation of the Head of Market Supervision role is a further step to strengthen NZX’s regulatory role. It reflects a split of the current Head of Regulation role in two, to separate regulatory decision making and overall policy development.
The Head of Market Supervision role will report directly to NZX’s Board and has responsibility for NZX’s regulation of its Issuers and Market Participants. NZX’s current Head of Regulation, Robyn Dey, will assume the Head of Policy and Legal role (which will report to the CEO) and will have responsibility for market development and policy work, and oversee NZX’s general legal function.
NZX Chairman Andrew Harmos commented: “We are delighted Joost has accepted the role and look forward to him starting as Head of Market Supervision, reporting directly to the board. NZX takes its responsibilities and obligations as a regulated market operator and a regulatory body very seriously, and this is another important plank in the structure and governance of NZX’s regulatory function."
