Bursa Malaysia Berhad today announced that Dato' Wong Sulong will be appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director effective 1 December 2006.
Yusli Mohamed Yusoff, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia Berhad commented, "I am very pleased that Dato' Wong will be joining Bursa Malaysia Berhad's Board. Dato' Wong Sulong, 59, graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Economics from the University of London in 1972. He began his career as a cadet journalist with New Straits Times in Kuala Lumpur in 1966. Dato' Wong later on joined the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) in 1969 as a journalist at its Kuala Lumpur office and was later transferred to ABC Sydney's office in 1989 as a Business Correspondent, covering Australian and Asian business news, including producing the program "Business Weekly" for Radio Australia and News Radio of ABC. Dato' Wong was appointed as the Malaysian correspondent for the Financial Times, London between 1970 and 1989.
After 27 years of service with ABC, he joined Star Publications (Malaysia) Berhad (Star) in March 1996 as Business Editor and later served as Managing Editor and Deputy Group Chief Editor. He was largely instrumental to the launch of BizWeek Magazine in August 2002. He was appointed Group Chief Editor of the Star in January 2004 and will retire from this position on 31 December 2006.
