Anne Sheehan Joins CalPERS Board Of Administration

Date 22/01/2008

The California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) announced that Anne Sheehan has joined the CalPERS Board as the designated representative of the State Personnel Board (SPB).

Sheehan has served as a member of the SPB since December 2003.  The Board is constitutionally charged with oversight for the State’s civil service system, including state employee discipline, civil servant selection, appeals, classifications and issues of discrimination.

Sheehan also serves as the Chief Deputy Director for Policy of the California Department of Finance, serving on more than 80 boards, commissions and authorities, including the California State Teachers’ Retirement System.  Ms. Sheehan is also the Executive Director of the Governor’s Public Employee Post-Employment Benefits Commission.

She replaces Maeley L. Tom who served as the State Personnel Board representative to the CalPERS Board since December 2005.

"We welcome Anne to our Board," said Rob Feckner, President of the CalPERS Board of Administration.  "Her strong background in state government, pensions  and fiscal management will be an asset as she assumes her responsibility as a fiduciary to the System."

Prior to her role at the Department of Finance, Sheehan served six years with the State and Consumer Services Agency in a number of capacities, including Secretary, Undersecretary, and Deputy Secretary.  She was also Deputy Director of the Department of Consumer Affairs. Prior to her public service, she was special projects director for the Califoria Building Industry Association, and later was Executive Director of the California Building Industry Foundation.

She is a graduate of the University of Colorado.

Sheehan serves on the Board of the Children's Receiving Home of Sacramento and is a member of the California State Bar’s Committee of Bar Examiners.

CalPERS is the nation’s largest public pension fund with assets totaling more than $240 billion.  The System provides retirement and health benefits to more than 1.5 million State and local public employees and their families.  For more on CalPERS, visit www.calpers.ca.gov.
