Mr. Koondel, who is also a floor governor and member of the current Amex LLC board of governors, was joined by Amex senior managers Salvatore F. Sodano, chairman and CEO, Peter Quick, president and Michael J. Bickford, senior vice president and head of the Amex Options business, in celebrating the 30-year mark. Also in attendance were past and current Amex Options employees notably among them William J. Brodsky, chairman and CEO of the Chicago Board Options Exchange, who worked at the Amex from 1974-1982.
"This 30-year celebration is an important milestone for the Amex and the Amex Options business," Mr. Sodano said. "In addition to being one of the largest options markets in the world, the Amex is also one of the first and helped make the options marketplace what it is today. We look forward to the next 30 years."
In its first year, the Amex Options market recorded 3.5 million trades, which were "calls" only, and posted an average daily volume for the year of just under 14,500. In 2004, the Amex executed 202.7 million trades in all options products and recorded an average daily volume for the year of over 804,000.
