The American Stock Exchange (Amex) announced today that David Harris has been appointed Senior Vice President of Strategic Planning and Anthony Opiatowski has been appointed Vice President of Project Advisory Services.

As Senior Vice President of Strategic Planning at the Amex, Mr. Harris will be responsible for planning and implementing critical aspects of the Exchange's strategic direction, as well as providing guidance regarding business development, market and exchange structure, and other initiatives of importance to the Amex and its customers.

Prior to joining the Amex, Mr. Harris served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Nasdaq Liffe Markets LLC (NQLX), formerly a joint venture between The Nasdaq Stock Market Inc. and the London Financial Futures and Options Exchange. Mr. Harris was a founder of NQLX and played a vital role in planning, directing, and executing the exchange's successful launch and subsequent operation. Mr. Harris has also served as Counsel to Chairman and Chief Executive Officers of the NASD and Nasdaq. Earlier in his career, Mr. Harris served as a Senior Associate at Kirkpatrick & Lockhart and as Senior Counsel in the Division of Enforcement at the Securities and Exchange Commission.

"David's extensive knowledge of market structure and regulatory policy, in addition to his experience in launching and operating a new exchange environment, is a complimentary fit for the Amex. His focus and talents will greatly contribute to the Amex's goal of providing an innovative marketplace that encourages competition and protects investors," said Amex Chairman and CEO Salvatore F. Sodano.

As Vice President of Project Advisory Services at the Amex, Mr. Opiatowski will establish integrated structure and process to assist business line and support groups in the efficient and successful execution of major initiatives. The role will also bring an independent, broad business perspective that will help project sponsors and executive management better govern a project and proactively identify and manage the risks to full business benefit realization.

Prior to joining the Amex, Mr. Opiatowski was a Vice President of Instinet Corporation and was a key member of the Business Risk Management team focusing on managing the firm's business and operational risks. In addition to helping establish firm-wide risk management and control programs, Mr. Opiatowski acted as risk advisor in support of a broad spectrum of strategic business transactions and operational initiatives. Previously, Mr. Opiatowski was Manager at Deloitte Consulting where he consulted for Fortune 500 clients in strategic planning and operations improvement, and prior to that, a Senior Project Engineer in the Regulatory Compliance area of Merck & Co.

"Anthony has vast industry knowledge and an extensive background in dealing with critical business and operational issues," said Amex Chairman and CEO Salvatore F. Sodano. "His expertise will greatly benefit the Amex as it continues to evolve and play a leadership role in an industry of constant change."
