The American Stock Exchange (Amex) announced today that Glen P. Barrentine has been promoted to director of Member Firm Regulation. The Amex Board of Governors approved the promotion yesterday.

Mr. Barrentine joined the Amex in 2001, serving as vice president of Enforcement and Examinations, and was promoted to senior vice president in January 2003. Since October 2002, he has served as acting director of Member Firm Regulation.

Prior to joining the Amex, Mr. Barrentine served as assistant general counsel for Banc of America Securities, LLC, in Charlotte NC, where he was principle attorney for compliance and regulatory issues.

From 1991-1997, Mr. Barrentine served at the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, where he was most recently an assistant director with the Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations. In that function, he was charged with inspections of programs administered by the exchanges and the National Association of Securities Dealers. He also served as senior counsel in the Division of Market Regulation’s Office of Exchange Regulation.

"Glen Barrentine has broad regulatory experience in both the corporate and government sectors of the securities industry," said Amex Chairman and CEO Salvatore F. Sodano. "His distinguished background and record of accomplishment will provide the Amex with solid leadership as we continue to execute against our primary objective of providing an innovative marketplace that both encourages competition and protects investors."
