Alberta Securities Commission Announces Departure Of Chair

Date 19/10/2004

The Alberta Securities Commission has announced that Stephen P. Sibold, Q.C., will be leaving the Commission after his current contract ends in the Spring of 2005.

"I am extremely pleased with the success which we have achieved at the ASC over the past five years," Mr. Sibold said. "I have been very proud of our accomplishments in the many areas of securities regulation, where we continue to provide practical and professional oversight of the capital market in Alberta."

Mr. Sibold was appointed Chair and CEO of the ASC in May 2000 for a five-year term. During his tenure, the ASC assumed a leadership role nationally. Recent milestones have included the ASC's leadership of the Uniform Securities Legislation (USL) Project, development and implementation of new oil and gas disclosure standards and the adoption of new capital raising exemptions.

The Alberta Securities Commission is the industry funded regulatory agency responsible for administering the Alberta Securities Act. Its mission is to foster a fair and efficient capital market in Alberta and, together with the other members of the Canadian Securities Administrators, develop and operate the Canadian Securities Regulatory System.
