ACER publishes a consultancy study on potential impacts of a bidding zone reconfiguration on market liquidity

The European Union Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) published today a consultancy study that proposes methodologies and indicators to evaluate the potential impact of a bidding zone reconfiguration on market liquidity and transaction costs.

The recast Electricity Regulation of the Clean Energy Package prescribes the launch of a bidding zone review, which shall evaluate alternative bidding zone configurations concerning a minimum set of criteria prescribed in the Capacity Allocation and Congestion Management Regulation. Two of these criteria are market liquidity and transaction costs.

The study was commissioned by the Agency with a view to support the regulatory discussions leading to the approval of the methodology and assumptions to be used in the above-mentioned bidding zone review study prescribed by the Clean Energy Package.
