The European Union Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) publishes today the 22nd edition of its REMIT Quarterly. Covering the third quarter of 2020, this edition provides an update on the largest ever REMIT fine, which is also the first sanction for breach of market manipulation in the form of deception. Another market manipulation sanction is presented in relation to the ascending clock auctions for the long-term gas transmission capacity allocation in the EU. This edition also highlights an upcoming hydrogen energy wholesale market and its importance in the decarbonisation of the European energy sector.
The latest REMIT documentation updates are also provided, along with an overview of REMIT breach cases statistics for the third quarter of 2020, as well as market abuse decisions imposing sanctions for breaches of Articles 3 and 5 of REMIT for the last four quarters.

The 4th Open Letter on REMIT data quality was published on 22 October 2020 and complements the first three Open Letters on REMIT data quality published over the past three years. ACER is pleased to report the previous letters have facilitated an improvement in data quality.
REMIT Open Letters are intended to promote cooperation by informing the reporting parties of ACER’s regular assessments on the completeness, accuracy and timely submission of the data received under REMIT. By using these findings, ACER aims to help its stakeholders ensuring the data reported to ACER is consistent with the REMIT reporting requirements.
ACER is committed to ensuring a high quality of data, and will continue to allocate specialist supervisory resources to this endeavour in order to further advance its market monitoring capabilities.
