Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) Celebrates Emirati Women’s Day

Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) celebrated Emirati Woman's Day, to highlight and commend the efforts made by Emirati women working at ADX. The celebration also sought to emphasise the importance of women's participation all across the financial sector, which is rooted in the UAE’s wise leadership policies aimed at female empowerment for Emirati women. This furthering of the personal development of women will also in turn, provide sustainable development for the country.

On this occasion, H.E. Khalifa Salem Al Mansouri, Acting Chief Executive of ADX commented: “ADX is keen to provide a supportive and empowering environment for Emirati women to invest in their potential, leveraging their unique abilities and motivating them to excel in this sector. Women are one of the fundamental sources of change and energy at ADX and in our organization, females form influential leaders in the decision-making process. At ADX, we are proud to have been an agent of change in the region while at the same time using this change to advance ADX’s role. The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Founder of the UAE, taught us about the importance of Emirati women in UAE society, and from an early stage in the UAE he embedded policies that were adopted immediately after the union of the Emirates to provide advantages and benefits for women in the UAE.”

H.E. Al Mansouri continued, “Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak - Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), and the "Mother of the UAE," – has, through her adoption of women's affairs in the UAE, ensured that Emirati women have made great strides towards achieving high levels of excellence globally in various fields. This development is a significant aspect in the giving, progress, and prosperity of the UAE society. This year, Emirati Women's Day has a special theme in alignment with the Year of Tolerance, with the UAE Women's Day theme "Women are the Icons of Tolerance".

The number of Emirati women working in ADX to date is 54 out of 130 employees, representing 41.5% of the workforce. Moreover, they hold 37% of the managerial roles.

Furthermore, the number of Emirati women investors by the end of the first half of 2019 totaled approximately 222 thousand investors, which corresponds to 75% of all the women investors in the Exchange. It is also noteworthy to highlight that Emirati women investors’ form 51% of all Emirati investors, men and women.

Likewise, the value of transactions (buy + sell) of Emirati women investors in the Exchange during the first half of 2019 amounted to more than AED 1.4 Billion, accounting for 87% of the total trades of women investors in the Exchange during the same period, while the volume of their trades ( buy + sell) summed up to over 630 million shares.

As for the market value of shares own by Emirati women investors, they increased by the end of the first half of 2019 to reach about AED 21 billion compared with approximately AED 19 billion at the end of the first half of 2018, an increase of about 8%.
