FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index:

A New ETF Is Listed On The Spanish Exchange - Santander Launches Its First Exchange Traded Fund - The Spanish Stock Market Will Start Trading Its Second ETF On 14 September

Date 12/09/2006

As of September 14th Santander will join the Spanish Stock Market’s ETF segment by listing its first ETF, called Santander ETF IBEX 35. It will be the second ETF listed on the Spanish Stock Market, whose exchange traded fund segment was launched in July.

Santander ETF Ibex 35 will bring Spanish investors a product which arrived in Spain recently – an exchange traded fund based on the performance of the IBEX 35®, which yields dividends twice a year, just as most of the index’s constituents. Santander ETF IBEX 35 is an asset within investors’ reach both in terms of price – as its value will be approximately a thousandth of that of the IBEX 35® when it is admitted to trading – and access, as it is bought in the same way as a share.

This new product, which is accessible to all types of investors, tracks the performance of a stock exchange index and can be bought and sold on the market with high standards of transparency and liquidity. In addition to the ETFs on the IBEX 35®, the segment will in future comprise new products on other indices, both of the IBEX® and LATIBEX family as well as international indices.

The main feature of an ETF is that its units are traded in real time, just in the same way as any other traded security. It is a product that combines the diversification of a fund - as it is made up of all the shares it tracks – with the flexibility of a share. Moreover, this product is supported by two specialists, who keep their commitment with the market by continually posting buy and sell positions and offering a narrow spread and a minimum volume.

Trading in the new ETF will start on September 14th, at 12 hrs, after a 30-minute opening auction. Santander’s representatives will perform the Opening of Honour with the traditional virtual ringing of the bell. Attending the event will be

  • Inés Serrano González, CEO, Santander Gestión de Activos
  • Gabriel Álvarez de Toledo, CEO, Santander SVB
  • Antonio Zoido, Chairman, BME
