Around 86% of Bitcoin addresses have made a profit. Regardless of this performance, a mere 16% of Germans have confidence in the price stability of digital currencies - in 2017, this figure was more than twice as high, according to a new infographic from Kryptoszene.de.
The proportion of those making transactions using cryptocurrencies has also decreased considerably. Around 4% of Germans currently use cryptocurrencies, compared to 11% in 2017.
While digital currencies are for the most part treated with skepticism, 86% of German citizens have faith in state-backed currencies. Only gold inspires even greater trust, with 87% of Germans putting their faith in the precious metal.
Meanwhile, the infographic shows that just 15% of financial market specialists deem cryptocurrencies suitable for investment. Skeptical investors aside, Bitcoin is nevertheless the asset of the hour. Within the last 365 days the BTC price has risen by 48.5%. Its performance even surpasses that of silver and gold - assets commonly regarded as crisis currencies. The price gains for the precious metals over the period were 34.1% and 26.5% respectively.
"As the research suggests, faith in cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin is dwindling across the board," according to Kryptoszene analyst Raphael Lulay. "Ironically, the price of the number one digital currency is booming at the moment, although some seem to regard this recent surge merely as a temporary increase".
