83 Billion Euro Turnover At Deutsche Börse In February - Number Of Transactions Decreased By 24 Percent Year-On-Year - Total Volume Of €98.5 Billion Traded On All Stock Exchanges In Germany

In February, €83.4 billion were turned over on Xetra and on the floor at Börse Frankfurt – a decrease of some 58 percent year-on-year (February 2008: €200.2 billion). Of the €83.4 billion turnover €77.3 billion were traded on Xetra, a decrease by almost 60 percent year-on-year (February 2008: €190.8 billion) and €6.2 billion on the floor (February 2008: €9.4 billion).

German equities accounted for €72.2 billion, while €7.7 billion were turned over in foreign equities. Roughly 97 percent of the transaction volume with German equities was executed on Xetra and the floor at Börse Frankfurt. 90 percent of foreign equities were traded on Xetra and on the floor.

In the entire month 13.2 million transactions were executed on Xetra, a decrease of 24 percent year-on-year (February 2008: 17.4 million).

According to the Xetra liquidity measure (XLM), RWE AG was the most liquid DAX® blue chip in February with 12 basis points (bp) for an order volume of €100,000. Fresenius SE was the most liquid MDAX® stock with 51 bp. The most liquid ETF was the db-x-trackers II EONIA T.R. 1C with 0.3 bp. The most liquid foreign stock was Royal Dutch Shell with 19 bp. XLM measures liquidity in electronic securities trading on the basis of the implicit transaction costs. It is expressed in basis points (1 bp = 0.01 percent); a low XLM denotes high liquidity in a security.

E.ON AG was the strongest DAX stock on Xetra in February at €4.7 billion. Hannover Rückversicherung AG was the top MDAX stock at €355 million, while MVV Energie AG led the SDAX® stocks at €33 million and Q-Cells SE headed the TecDAX® at €556 million. At €1.1 billion, the iShares DAX was the exchange-traded fund with the largest turnover.

On all stock exchanges in Germany €98.5 billion were traded in February according to orderbook turnover statistics – a decrease of 55 percent compared year-on-year (February 2008: €217.9 billion). This total includes €86.3 billion in equities, warrants and exchange-traded funds, as well as €12.2 billion in fixed-income securities.
