483 Billion Euros In Turnover On The German Stock Exchanges In March - Xetra Record In DAX And MDAX Stocks

A total volume of 483.1 billion euros was traded on the German stock exchanges in March, about 26 percent higher than in February. The March total comprises some 365.3 billion euros in equities, warrants and exchange-traded funds and about 118 billion euros in fixed-income securities. Roughly 89 percent of the volume traded in equities nationwide was posted in trading on Xetra and the floor of FWB, the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

The order-book statistics, which are based on single counting of all transactions in the order book of Xetra and broker-supported trading on the floor, show that a total volume of 113.2 billion euros was traded in equities on the German stock exchanges in March. Of this total, 106.6 billion euros was traded in German equities, and some 91 percent, or 96.9 billion euros, of this volume was traded through Xetra. Another 6.8 percent, or about 6.8 billion euros in turnover, was posted in trading on the floor of FWB, the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. Xetra set a new record in the DAX blue-chip and MDAX (mid-cap) stocks, with some 95 percent of the DAX total and 70 percent of the MDAX volume being posted through Xetra.

According to the order-book statistics, Siemens was the most active DAX blue chip in March with volume of 13.2 billion euros traded in its shares. Altana was the leading MDAX stock, with 416 million euros in shares traded. Aixtron was the top Neuer Markt stock in March, with turnover of 428 million euros posted in its shares. In the SMAX (small-cap quality) segment, TFG ranked first with a volume of 20 million euros in shares traded. With turnover of some 1.44 billion euros, Nokia ranked first amongst foreign companies. The highest-volume exchange-traded fund in March was the DAX XTF with 1.25 billion euros.
