Also based on preliminary figures, the orderbook statistics, which are based on single counting of all transactions in the Xetra orderbook and broker-supported trading on the floor, show that the total turnover in equities on the German stock exchanges in 2002 is about even with the previous year's level, at about 1 trillion euros (2001: 1.1 trillion euros). Some 900 billion euros of this volume will be traded in German equities (2001: 1 trillion euros), and about 64 billion euros in foreign equities (2001: 84 billion euros).
In 2002, the funds listed in the XTF segment recorded a substantial increase in volume in an overall weak market environment: This year's annual volume comes to about 33 billion euros corresponding to 41 percent growth compared with the previous year (2001: 23.5 billion euros). The average daily volume traded will come to 131 million euros in 2002, compared with 93 million euros in 2001. In 2002, 46 ETFs and eleven actively managed funds were newly admitted in XTF. The segment, which was launched in April 2000 for trading in ETFs and actively managed funds, thus had its most successful year to date.
The Xetra share of equities trading rose further in the year just ended. In the DAX blue chips, 94 percent of the volume traded in 2001 was posted on Xetra, this year the Xetra share will be about 96 percent. In the MDAX equities, Xetra also further expanded its market share from about 74 percent to some 84 percent; a record was set on Xetra in the MDAX equities in October 2002, with a 90 percent share of the volume traded in this segment.
The turnover figures for the year 2002 are tentative. The turnover for the last five trading days has been estimated. The final statistics for 2002 will be available on January 2, 2003.
