According to the order-book statistics, which are based on single counting of all transactions in the order book of Xetra and in broker-supported trading on the floor, a volume of 90.1 billion euros was traded in equities on the German stock exchanges in June, which corresponds to a rise of some 12 percent in turnover compared to the previous month (May 2002: 80.3 billion euros). Of this total, 84,6 billion euros was traded in German equities, and some 5,5 billion euros in foreign equities. About 94 percent of the volume in domestic shares was posted on Xetra, and another 4 percent in trading on the floor of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. In foreign shares, about 91 percent of the equities volume was traded on Xetra and the Frankfurt trading floor.
In June, some 97 percent of the volume traded in the DAX blue chips was posted on Xetra. In the MDAX (mid-cap DAX) stocks, Xetra set a new record in June: 85 percent of the total MDAX volume was traded through Xetra. About 46 percent of the SDAX (small-cap DAX) volume was posted on Xetra and some 76 percent of the volume in Neuer Markt stocks.
Siemens was the most active DAX blue chip in June with 8.4 billion euros traded in its shares. Altana was the leading MDAX stock with 398 million euros in volume, and Thiel Logistik topped the list of Neuer Markt stocks with 194 million euros in shares traded. In the SMAX (small-cap quality) segment, Leoni ranked first with some 19 million euros in share turnover. DAX EX was the highest-volume exchange-traded fund again in June, with about 874 million euros in turnover. Intel was the leading stock in the Xetra US Stars segment, with 41 million euros traded in its shares, and Nokia, with 1,1 billion euros in volume, the highest of the Xetra European Stars.
Block trading on Xetra XXL set a new monthly record in June with about 884.8 million euros in volume traded (May 2002: 807.2 million euros).
