25 Years Of The FESE De La Vega Prize

Date 09/10/2025

FESE marks the conclusion of the 25th anniversary campaign of the FESE De la Vega Prize, and celebratea a quarter-century of recognising outstanding academic work that deepens the understanding of European capital markets.

Named in honour of Joseph de la Vega, the 17th-century pioneer of financial thought who sought to increase understanding among those who were not in the financial business of what he regarded as “the most honest and most useful of all”, the Prize continues his mission of making financial markets more comprehensible and accessible to all.

Over the years, the Prize has amplified the visibility of academic research, bringing rigorous, policy-relevant work onto the radar of senior policymakers and market stakeholders. It has helped bridge the gap between academic insight and practical policymaking, ensuring that evidence-based research contributes to a more transparent, efficient, and inclusive market environment.

FESE President, Niels Brab, stated:

“The 25th anniversary of the FESE De la Vega Prize is testimony to FESE’s long-standing commitment to foster financial education and academic excellence which are the building blocks to empowering citizens in a social market economy with capitalistic foundation – ensuring participation in wealth creation and being able to manage finances more skillfully, making well-informed investment decisions to promote a happier and more productive life.”

FESE extensd its sincere thanks to the Members of the Jury for their dedication and expertise in recognising excellence throughout these years.

As it looks ahead, FESE will continue to advance financial literacy and academic excellence as key drivers of empowerment—helping citizens to participate more fully in capital markets, make informed investment decisions, and contribute to growth and prosperity in Europe.
