The big volume story in the first nine months of 2006 at the New York Board of Trade® (NYBOT®), the world’s leading “soft” commodity exchange, is options trading. Total options on futures trading year-to-date [YTD]) of 9,159,123 contracts has broken the previous all time annual volume record of 8,932,169 established in 2005. Options are currently running 44% ahead of last year’s pace. The overall exchange volume through September 2006 stands at 34,536,655 futures and options contracts, a 21% increase over the same period for the all time record year of 2005.
Joe O’Neill, NYBOT SVP of Marketing, said: “Trading activity at our exchange continues to run up record numbers, with our total volumes already moving well ahead of last year’s all time highs, most notably in the options pits, which are trading at historic levels. Sugar No. 11sm options have led the way and are up 120% over 2005. Our World Sugar contract has passed a lot of milestones this year including most recently a record number of deliveries.”
Some YTD category increases are: Total Ag Futures (up 15%), Currency Futures (up 16%), and Total Futures (up 15%); options increases are: Ag Options (up 46%), Currency Options (up 12%), and Total Options (up 44%).

- Cocoa (symbol CC) futures (up 22%)
- U.S. Dollar Index® (symbol DX) futures (up 19%)

- Frozen Concentrated Orange Juice (symbol OJ) futures (up 12%) and options (up 9%)
- Coffee “C” (symbol KC) futures (up 7%) and options (12%)
- Wood Pulp (symbol P) futures (up 21%)
