2004 Was Marked By High Yields On The Ljubljana Stock Exchange Market

All three leading indices of the Ljubljana Stock Exchange reached their record values again in 2004, market capitalisation and the value of trading volume increased as well.

In 2004 all three leading indices of the Ljubljana Stock Exchange reached their record values. The Slovene Stock Exchange index SBI20 grew by 25 per cent and reached its record value in November. The indices IPT and PIX increased by 16 and 34 per cent respectively.

Total market capitalisation increased by 25 per cent and amounted to SIT 3,050 billion on 31 December. Due to high growth in share prices and transformation of PIDs (authorised close-end funds) into ordinary joint-stock companies, the highest growth was recorded by market capitalisation of shares - by 27 per cent. A similar growth was reached by market capitalisation of bonds on account of newly admitted bonds. On 31 December 2004 market capitalisation of all shares on the Exchange (excluding investment funds) made up 30 per cent of GDP of the year 2003.

In terms of value turnover increased by 17 per cent as compared to the previous year and reached SIT 397 billion, which was the second largest turnover value in the history of the Ljubljana Stock Exchange (second only to the figure recorded in 2002). Brokers concluded on average 1,385 trades per day, the average trade value was SIT 1.12 million.

6 new bond issues were admitted to trading on the official market. To trading on the free market 4 issues of shares of joint-stock companies were admitted, 15 shares of joint-stock companies formed from transformed PIDs, 1 share of ID (investment company) and 11 bond issues. 3 shares and 1 bond issue were excluded from the official market and 9 shares of joint-stock companies and 16 shares of PIDs from trading on the free market.
