Nasdaq Sets One-Day Point Gain Record - Third Largest Volume Day Also Established

The Nasdaq Stock Market® had its largest point increase ever with preliminary figures showing the Nasdaq Composite® Index rising 217.87 points to 3539.16. The Composite climbed 6.5 percent, its 2nd largest percent increase ever. The previous point gain record was set on April 7, 2000 with the Composite Index rising 178.89 points.

Nasdaq also experienced its 3rd largest volume day for total number of shares traded in a single day, with preliminary figures showing more than 2.473 billion shares changed hands. All of the 10 highest share volume days in Nasdaq's history have occurred within the past three months.
