Mercer Study: Having Up To 5 Percent Gold In Your Portfolio Considerably Reduces The Risk Of Loss - Study On Gold As An Asset Class For Institutional Investors - Deutsche Börse Commodities
The Mercer study examines the effect of holding a certain proportion of gold on the performance of a portfolio of large-cap shares and government bonds. To this end, it defines two different scenarios: a normal market environment scenario and a stress scenario. In a nutshell, investment in gold was shown to be a sensible diversification of a portfolio, particularly in times of crisis. The study also shows that adding gold reduces the risk of loss in achieving any target return or that the expected return for any targeted risk of loss is higher.

U.S. Treasury Announces Pricing Of Public Offering Of AIG Common Stock
Today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced that it has agreed to sell 200,000,000 shares of its American International Group (AIG) common stock at $29.00 per share as part of AIG’s public equity offering. The underwriters in the offering have a 30-day option to purchase up to 45,000,000 additional shares of common stock from Treasury on the same terms and conditions. The aggregate gross proceeds to Treasury from the offering are expected to be approximately $5.8 billion ($7.1 billion if the underwriters exercise their option in full).

BM&FBOVESPA Announces New Bidding Process For Unsponsored Level I BDRs - Depositary Institutions Have Until June 22, 2011 To File Proposals
BM&FBOVESPA hereby announces the opening of the fifth bidding process to select a depositary institution authorized to issue Unsponsored Level I BDRs – Brazilian Depositary Receipts. The winner will be authorized to issue the next allotment of 10 (ten) Unsponsored Level I BDR programs, backed by shares issued by companies with stocks traded in the United States. The depository institutions that wish to take part in the selection process should forward their proposals by June 22, 2011. The rules for the bidding process are described in the Bid Notice and the winner will be announced on June 29, 2011.

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) today filed a civil enforcement action in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York against Parnon Energy Inc.(Parnon) of California, Arcadia Petroleum Ltd. (Arcadia Petroleum) of the United Kingdom, Arcadia Energy (Suisse) SA (Arcadia Suisse) of Switzerland, James T. Dyer of Australia and Nicholas J. Wildgoose of California, charging them with unlawfully manipulating and attempting to manipulate New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) crude oil futures prices from January 2008 to April 2008.

At the end of the settlement date of May 13, 2011, short interest in 2,325 NASDAQ Global MarketSM securities totaled 6,604,611,145 shares compared with 6,478,149,066 shares in 2,335 Global Market issues reported for the prior settlement date of April 29, 2011. The mid-May short interest represents 3.23 days average daily NASDAQ Global Market share volume for the reporting period, compared with 3.65 days for the prior reporting period.

Today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced that Chrysler Group LLC has repaid its outstanding Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) loans. Chrysler’s repayment comes six years before the scheduled maturity of those loans in 2017.
