The Warsaw Stock Exchange Bids Farewell To Its Trading Floor

Date 16/11/2000

On November 16, 2000, the Warsaw Stock Exchange trading floor was used for the last time by specialist brokers. The function of specialist (in the single-price auction system) was introduced in the year 1991 when the Exchange was opened.

Specialists were responsible for determining a single price for each traded security and for maintaining liquidity. Being present on the Exchange trading floor, they became a characteristic feature of the WSE operations. Closure of the Exchange floor is an outcome of the switchover to the new trading system called WARSET. In WARSET, specialists will no longer operate as they are replaced by voluntary market-makers (animators). These will be based at their home brokerage houses with remote access to the order book.

More information regarding the new trading system may be found on www.wse.com.pl under NEW TRADING SYSTEM WARSET
