KLSE Executive Chairman Dato' Mohd Azlan Hashim said that KLSE, aided by investors' feedback and industry support, has ensured that the market is fair and orderly, capital is raised efficiently and cost effectively to enable investors to trade with security and confidence.
"With the Malaysian economy continuing to grow at an encouraging pace, the KLSE is well- positioned to fulfil its role as the platform for the mobilisation of capital and trading of Malaysian securities.
"We invite all investors to visit Malaysia and experience for themselves the reality. Invest in Malaysia, to take advantage of the opportunities that abound," Mohd Azlan in his presentation titled 'Malaysian Stock Market: Gearing For Growth' at the Malaysia-Singapore Business Forum 2000 in Singapore on September 5.
Mohd Azlan also said KLSE and other regulatory authorities have been methodically addressing the concerns of investors, both local and foreign, to ensure that the platform on which capital is raised and where secondary trading takes place is highly efficient, cost effective and secure.
This has contributed to making the KLSE even more internationally competitive . For the year 2000 to date, Mohd Azlan added KLSE's performance is comparable to that of regional exchanges. "In terms of breadth and choice, KLSE is probably unparalleled in the ASEAN region. It has more listed companies, 788 at last count, than any other regional exchanges.
"Malaysian companies have also staged a strong recovery from the crisis period. For the reporting periods ended 1999, about two thirds of listed companies have registered profits. For the year 2000 to date, over three quarters of listed companies have shown positive results. This clearly shows there are a lot of opportunities for the prudent investor," Mohd Azlan said.
