Hudson City Bancorp, Inc. To Join Nasdaq Financial-100 Index Beginning July 31, 2000

Hudson City Bancorp, Inc. (Nasdaq:HCBK) of Paramus, New Jersey, will become a component of the Nasdaq Financial-100 Index®, effective at the beginning of trading Monday, July 31, 2000. Hudson City Bancorp will replace Banco de Galicia y Buenos Aires S.A., which is being acquired by Grupo Financiero Galicia S.A.

With a market capitalization of $1.9 billion, Hudson City Bancorp, Inc. is the holding company for Hudson City Savings Bank, which operates 79 full-service branches throughout New Jersey. Hudson City Savings is a community and customer-oriented savings bank that provides financial services primarily to individuals and families.

The Nasdaq Financial-100 Index consists of 100 of the largest financial organizations listed on the Nasdaq National Market. It was launched in January 1985.
