In response to directives from H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum,Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, declaring October 29 a day for honoring coders and programmers, the Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA) celebrated the UAE Codes Day, which starts on October 29, with several events and activities that stretch until November 1 and aim at raising awareness of the importance of programming languages and their role in promoting the development and economic sectors in the country.
H.E. Dr. Maryam Butti Al Suwaidi, the SCA’s CEO, said that this day represents a dear national occasion that increases the active engagement of younger generations in shaping the future of their country and opens up new prospects for them and for people of the region. As such, the SCA has been keen to take part in celebrating this special day to support investing in human capital, bolster skills, and create a favorable environment that nurtures creativity and innovation. Serving on the UAE Digital Economy Council, the SCA has also been working to promote concepts related to coding and comprehensive digital transformation across the securities sector in line with the relentless efforts made by the country’s wise leadership to create an environment supporting and nurturing coders and programs and helping enhance their abilities when it comes to artificial intelligence.
“The SCA’s participation in this day comes out of its belief in the leading role that coders and programmers play in building a prosperous future for the UAE and making it a hub for a sustainable economy centered on innovation, knowledge, and modern technology. Its participation underpins the efforts made by the National Program for Coders and helps promote the initiatives it implemented to enhance awareness of the importance of coding. Undoubtedly, the programming languages today represent a tool that future generations, especially those with talents and creative abilities, can use to develop ideas and projects with the help of smart applications, thereby building a competitive economy based on knowledge, innovation, and future technological applications to help maximize the welfare of the community,” she said.
As part of the events organized to celebrate this day, the SCA showcased the success of its Mersal system, a key program created internally by the information technology team to help further automate operational and administrative processes and accelerate the move towards a paperless workplace, where all internal and external communications are replaced with electronically signed documents. This system also helps with document management and archiving, minimizes efforts, speeds up processes, and reduces the files created.
The SCA also launched an awareness campaign where awareness tips were posted on social media platforms and its website to enhance awareness about coding and technological innovation. It also honored coders in the securities sector in recognition of their continuous efforts in promoting technological transformation in the workplace, thus helping realize the SCA’s vision and strategic objectives.
