The New York Board of Trade® (NYBOT®) exchange markets made history in February, breaking the all-time total monthly volume record of September 2003 by 101,316 contracts by trading 2,677,489 futures and options. The NYBOT's agricultural markets established their own high-water marks with a combined futures and options volume of 2,527,488 contracts, led by historic levels of overall agricultural futures trading and record activity in coffee and sugar.
The records:
- Combined Futures and Options were 2,677,489 contracts, breaking the 2,576,173 total from September 2003.
- Combined Ag futures and options were 2,527,488 contracts, surpassing the previous record of 2,412,532 from October 2003.
- Futures in all the NYBOT markets traded 2,181,850 contracts, a record, breaking the 1,924,413 mark from September 2003.
- Ag Futures set a new record with 2,049,678 contracts, 1,650,251 was the former high in April 2003.
- The Sugar #11 futures market (symbol SB) traded 1,018,664 contracts, the previous record was 807,381 contracts from July 1988.
- The Coffee "C" (symbol KC) futures contract had a record monthly volume of 397,656 contracts, replacing the previous high set in January 2004 of 389,864.
