Federation of European Securities Exchanges: Report On Wilton Park 2006

Date 21/12/2006

FESE co-organises the Wilton Park Conference (held in Wilton Park, Sussex, UK) since 1999. This unique series of conferences aims to create an informal forum to discuss issues affecting the regulation of global financial markets.

Participants stay overnight in the conference base, which is a modernised sixteenth century English country house in beautiful surroundings in the middle of the English countryside, an ideal place "to break down barriers" and to engage in a strategic, high-level exchange of views. The conference is kept deliberately small, with about 40-50 people present for round-the-table discussions, in which everyone is encouraged to join in. The discussion, conducted under the Chatham House Rule, is frank and often ground-breaking. Participants come from a wide range of nationalities and professions. Most are in a position to make a direct impact on policy or hold high positions of responsibility in the banking, exchange or investment funds industry.

This year the Wilton Park Conference was held on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th November and was chaired by Michel Prada, President of AMF (Autorité des Marchés Financiers). The Conference, titled 'Capital Flows and the Safety of Markets,’ focussed on potential areas of risk and the framework for the management of risks in relation to derivatives markets, bond markets, securitisation, as well as the management of risks through the global policy dialogue. The Report of the 2006 Conference (as 2005) was prepared by Burçak Inel of FESE.
