TMX Group Inc. today announced January 2010 consolidated trading statistics for its diversified group of exchanges – Toronto Stock Exchange, TSX Venture Exchange, Montreal Exchange and Natural Gas Exchange (NGX). Tom Kloet, TMX Group CEO said: "TMX Group is the central and neutral operator of markets, including equities, derivatives and energy. Today, we are providing a consolidated view of trading activity, offering all market participants a simpler and more complete view of performance and trends."
Highlights
TSX Venture Exchange saw dramatic year-over-year improvement in all measures in January 2010. Trading volume for the month on the public venture capital market place was double the volume traded in January 2009, the number of transactions was up 179.5%, and the value of shares traded was 374.1% greater.
Montreal Exchange also saw significant improvement in both trading volume and the number of open interest contracts in January 2010. There was a 44.4% increase in open interest contracts and an 18.1% increase in volume compared to January 2009.
