Annual turnover on SIX Swiss Exchange and Scoach Switzerland amounted to CHF 1,130.4 billion in 2009. This represents a 41.5 % fall compared to 2008, which was the third best year in the history of SIX Swiss Exchange after 2006 and 2007. The number of transactions declined less than turnover compared to the same period in 2008 (-23.0%). ETFs again fared very well in 2009: they were up 27.7 % in terms of turnover, while the number of trades increased by an impressive 59.9 %. All indices gained ground in 2009, which was encouraging. The blue chip SMI® index stood at 6,595 points at 12:00 on Tuesday, 29 December (+19.2 % compared to the end of 2008), the SLI Swiss Leader Index® at 1,010 points (+28.0 %) and the more broadly based SPI® at 5,664 points (+24.0 %).
