KVH And Zadara Storage To Deliver Enterprise Storage-As-A-Service For AWS Customers In Japan - Addressing Strong Demand For High-Quality And Flexible Storage Services To Support High-Grade Enterprise Applications

Date 29/08/2013

KVH Co. Ltd., Asia’s leading information delivery platform, and Zadara™ Storage, Inc., an award-winning provider of enterprise-class private cloud storage by the hour, today announced the two companies are working together to deliver Zadara’s Enterprise Storage-as-a-Service to KVH and Amazon Web Services (AWS) customers in Japan, building on the strength of the AWS cloud platform and demonstrating KVH’s commitment to continuously enhancing its growing ecosystem of solution providers within its infrastructure services.  This service will be available from 17th September, 2013.

As today's enterprises are facing the challenges of rapidly increasing data volumes, enterprise-grade storage solutions are still proving to involve high hardware costs in cases of storage expansion, as well as high human resource costs for maintenance and operation.  The Zadara Storage Enterprise Storage-as-a-Service offering, Virtual Private Storage Array™ (VPSA™), is designed to address enterprise needs, such as volume-sharing, NAS and dedicated spindles, by providing a highly scalable and cost-efficient cloud storage solution that can be delivered by the hour, allowing for scaling of capacity and performance up or down on-demand, and permitting unprecedented user self-service provisioning and administrative control under completely private environments.

The Zadara Storage Enterprise Storage-as-a-Service offering, the Virtual Private Storage Array™ (VPSA™), will be delivered over a low-latency 10Gigabit circuit supplied by KVH that reaches from KVH Tokyo Data Center 1 (TDC1) to AWS customers via an AWS Direct Connect port.  Zadara Storage VPSA will provide customers of both KVH and AWS in Japan access to and use of private block-and-file Storage Area Networks (SANs) and Network Attached Storage (NAS) at hourly rates.  This is ideal for uses ranging from databases and other mission-critical applications, to high-capacity big data and online repositories.  Zadara and KVH will conduct joint sales initiatives and activities, and KVH will provide bilingual operational support in English and Japanese.

The combination of KVH TDC1, a highly robust facility that was purpose-built to address the strict security needs of the financial industry, KVH’s low-latency networks in proximity to AWS, KVH Public and Private Cloud Services, and Zadara’s VPSA technology will enable KVH and AWS customers to leverage highly-flexible, enterprise-grade storage solutions with minimal up-front and on-going costs.  The service’s scalability will allow enterprises to cost-efficiently address fluctuations in demand and support customers as their business grows, as well as offer unique capabilities to AWS customers, including NFS as a service, data-at-rest encryption, volume sharing, persistent SSD storage, large volumes, remote replication and much more.

Zadara’s VPSA helps IT groups accelerate the deployment of mission-critical applications through either off-premise Storage-as-a-Service systems via dedicated, flexibly deployed equipment co-located at AWS Direct Connect Facilities and Dimension Data (formerly OpSource) data centers or via on-premise offerings for service providers. The company’s architecture can also be leveraged by enterprise data center administrators maintaining their own virtualized datacenters.  Zadara’s VPSA can serve as either primary (for applications) or secondary (for backup) storage.  Thanks to its patent-pending CloudFabric™ architecture, Zadara delivers single-tenant performance and privacy available in convenient building blocks of drives, controllers, and cores that can be instantly created, grown, and shrunk, all via software, with cloud-based cost efficiency.

Zadara Storage will be released at prices starting from 103 JPY per hour and scales to below 15 JPY per GB per month for fully protected, highly available, sharable storage. Pricing can scale up or down depending on the customer’s performance and capacity requirements.

“We are pleased to be partnering with Zadara Storage to build on the powerful AWS platform to bring customers in Japan even further flexibility and security for their storage solutions,” said Dr. Zhongmin Guo, Chief Business Development Officer at KVH.  “We plan to further strengthen this relationship as we continue our strategy of building an ecosystem of service providers within our data centers to offer our customers a broader range of high-quality services that can be bundled into integrated solutions.”

“With today’s news, we are bringing a mission-critical solution to enterprise customers deploying in the cloud, building on the solid foundation of AWS,” said Nelson Nahum, CEO of Zadara Storage.  “We’re delighted to help enterprises meet their unique and demanding storage needs through our Enterprise Storage as a Service (STaaS) solution, and to partner with KVH so that more Japanese organizations can take advantage of the transformative business advantage of the cloud computing model.”
