KCBT Posts Volume Increases Over Last Year, Last Month

The first month of 2000 showed healthy increases in overall exchange volume traded at the Kansas City Board of Trade. The exchange posted a 46.2 percent increase when compared to December 1999 and a 15.9 percent increase when compared to last January.
Paving the way to increased volume were wheat futures and wheat options trading. In fact, the wheat options volume set a new January record last month as 12,652 contracts traded, breaking the previous January record of 11,412 contracts set in 1994.
Wheat futures volume grew 14.8 percent when compared to last January and 47.5 percent when compared to December 1999. Wheat options volume was up 57.3 percent from last January and 52.1 percent from last month.
