In September, the trading volume on the EEX Spot Market for Natural Gas amounted to 1,437,494 MWh (GASPOOL and NCG market areas) compared to 114,432 MWh in September 2009. The volume included 491,150 MWh traded in the Within-Day Gas product which was launched on 1 March 2010. The Spot Market price for the day-ahead delivery of Natural Gas ranged between EUR 18.30 per MWh and EUR 23.40 per MWh.
The volumes on the Derivatives Market for Natural Gas (GASPOOL and NCG market areas) amounted to 467,550 MWh (September 2009: 724,890 MWh). On 30 September 2010, the open interest was 19,224,103 MWh. On 30 September 2010 Natural Gas prices for delivery in 2011 were fixed at EUR 20.37 per MWh (GASPOOL) and EUR 20.35 per MWh (NCG), respectively.
On the EEX Spot Market for CO2 Emission Allowances (EUA) a total of 1,385,000 EUA was traded in September. The volume included 185,000 EUA traded on the secondary spot market (September 2009: 1,778,791 EUA). During the month, the Carbix (Carbon Index) ranged between EUR 14.81 per EUA and EUR 15.74 per EUA. The total volume on the EEX Derivatives Market for CO2 Emission Allowances amounted to 16,460,000 EUA. The volume included 13,610,000 EUA traded on the secondary derivatives market (September 2009: 1,498,000 EUA). The 2010 MidDec future contract settled at EUR 15.39 per EUA on 30 September 2010, and the 2011 future contract at EUR 15.71 per EUA.
On the CO2 Derivatives Market for Certified Emission Reductions a volume of 10,000 CER was traded (September 2009: 105,000 CER). On 30 September 2010, the 2010 Mid Dec future contract was traded at EUR 13.70 per CER and the 2011 future contract at EUR 13.12 per CER.
