Chi-X® Global Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Instinet Incorporated, today announced that former Chi-X Global Chairman Tony Mackay has been named Chairman Emeritus, a non-executive position reporting directly to Chi-X Global CEO John Lowrey. In this Hong Kong-based role, Mr. Mackay will provide strategic guidance concerning key business opportunities, infrastructure issues and regulatory matters, especially those pertaining to the Asia-Pacific region.
Mr. Mackay, who has stepped down from all his existing executive roles within Instinet’s brokerage units and Chi-X businesses, joined Instinet in Hong Kong in 1995, eventually becoming CEO and then Chairman for the firm’s Asian and European brokerage businesses before being named CEO and then Chairman for both Chi-X Europe and then Chi-X Global.
Fumiki Kondo, co-CEO of Instinet Incorporated and Chairman of Chi-X Global, commented: “During his 15 years at Instinet, Tony was a pioneer in launching Instinet’s electronic trading and ATS platforms in Asia. Tony then became one of the driving forces behind the conception and launch of Chi-X Europe and later Chi-X Global.”
“Tony’s vision, leadership and dedication to Instinet and Chi-X these past 15 years have been greatly appreciated by all. We are happy that he will be able to continue providing input and guidance, particularly in Asia and Australia, where we intend to launch later this year,” said Mr. Lowrey.
“Until relatively recently, many believed that electronic and alternative venue trading were U.S.-only phenomena. I’m proud that Instinet and later the Chi-X platforms have been able to bring the benefits of electronic, alternative trading to investors globally and am pleased that I will be able to continue my involvement with Chi-X Global through this new role,” said Mr. Mackay.
