B3, CVM, GRI And Global Compact Launch Document To Facilitate Disclosure Of Socio-environmental Information

Date 07/12/2018

In line with their leading role in the development of activities that encourage good corporate governance practices and in their support to create new markets and increase the social and environmental agenda of companies, B3, CVM (Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission), GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) and the Brazil Network of the UN Global Compact have joined forces to produce a document that correlates the items in the Reference Form (a Capital Market Regulator document that Brazilian listed companies must complete, at least annually, reporting their activities) to the GRI guidelines used to report their progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The purpose of this initiative is to make the disclosure of socio-environmental information and corporate governance by companies more practical and consistent, thus increasing its relevance and comparability for investor decision-making.

According to the partners participating in the initiative, rather than creating another benchmark or establishing ready-made rules or formulas, the main concern of B3, CVM, GRI and the Brazil Network of the Global Compact is to help make corporate reporting simpler for companies, while making them aware that their information should be the same even though they are disclosed from different sources. Furthermore, companies expect that this document fulfills its role in demonstrating that the disclosure of financial information is directly related to the Sustainable Development Goals.

The partners’ initiative will produce a document to be released on December 7 during an event held at CVM in Rio de Janeiro at the “Reference Form, SDGs and GRI” discussion panel at 4:30 p.m.
