The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 4.36% in August, closing at 11613.53. Stock market indexes in Europe, Asia and globally were down in August, according to monthly figures from global index provider, Dow Jones Indexes.

  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 4.36% in August, closing at 11613.53. Year-to-date, the index is up 0.31%.
  • The Dow Jones Europe Titans 80 Index is down 10.67% for August, closing at 1397.64. Year-to-date, the index is down 7.59%.
  • The Dow Jones Eurozone Titans 80 Index is down 13.35% for August, closing at 1340.98. Year-to- date, the index is down 10.98%.
  • The Dow Jones Asian Titans 50 Index fell 8.01% in August to 127.20. So far this year, the index is down 12.70%.
  • The Dow Jones Global Titans 50 Index fell 6.67% in August, closing at 170.87. Year-to-date, the index is down 3.52%.

AUGUST 2011 Sector Winners and Losers

  • In the U.S., the Dow Jones U.S. Utilities Index was the biggest winner in August, posting a 1.06% gain;
    the Dow Jones U.S. Oil & Gas Index posted the biggest loss, dropping 10.42%.
  • In Europe, the Dow Jones Europe Health Care Index posted the narrowest loss, down 5.77%; the Dow
    Jones Europe Financials Index had the sharpest decline, falling 14.73%.
  • In Asia, the Dow Jones Asia/Pacific Utilities Index posted the narrowest loss, down 2.90%; the Dow
    Jones Asia/Pacific Oil & Gas Index posted the biggest loss, dropping 11.30%.
  • Globally, the Dow Jones Food & Beverage Titans Index posted the narrowest loss, down 1.69%; the
    Dow Jones World Automobiles & Parts Titans Index posted the biggest loss, dropping 15.26%.
